Lead Paint Test

Testing Paint for Lead

Home’s or Business’s that were built prior to 1978 may have lead in their paint.

The dangers of this are well documented.  If you are unsure if there is a base layer of lead paint under the current paint layer, give us a call, we have all the equipment necessary to provide you with a lead paint evaluation.

Homes Built Before 1978

Our customers often wonder if they should truly be concerned about lead-based paints within their homes in 2017.

Can it it really cause health issues?  Are all the scary claims from the “experts” true?

We don’t like to use scare tactics but if your home is older, or your walls have had many coats of paint applied over the years, you may have lead in the original paint.  Stop Guessing, Start Testing.  Call Today.

Lead Testing - Why You Need It

Lead-based paint inspection & testing is recommended before remodeling, repainting, or refinishing in your home or business.

You should also get lead testing done if you have concerns or if your home or business was built prior to 1978.  Paints used prior to this often contain high amounts of lead in their base making them toxic to occupants of houses or buildings where they are present.

A sample of your paint will be collected and analyzed from the many surfaces in your home or business that need to be inspected. Samples are around one square inch and up to four square inches in size.

Lead Poisoning - Who's at Risk?

Lead is a naturally occurring element and in small quantities is usually not overly harmful.

However, in many cases lead poisoning through paint may be possible.

Pregnant mothers are especially at risk as are small children. Lead poisoning may be especially likely in the case of chipping paint if children stick these chips in their mouths while playing. Poisoning may also occur when sanding or refinishing lead painted surface if this dust is inhaled.

Benefits of Lead Testing

Testing for lead-based paint can help to keep you safe. Children who are prone to sticking things in their mouth should not be in an environment where there is lead-based paint still on the walls.

Lead can contaminate floors, window sills, toys, bedding, and even the soil around homes or businesses when the paint is damaged and begins to peel. By testing, you can prevent lead poisoning which could cause nerve damage, premature births, low birth weights, kidney problems, headaches, memory issues, and more.

Lead Testing Results

Your Paint (or other) samples that we collect will be sent to a lab for testing.  When the results are in, your consultant will contact you and send you a copy of the report.

You will be given a simple yes or no answer to quickly put your mind at ease. Awareness is the first step.

Radon Testing

Radon Gas Is Dangerous

Radon can be found in all areas of the home.  It is a gas that is odorless and tasteless.  It is often found in the soil beneath your home, so crawl spaces are especially vulnerable for Radon.

Radon | Poisonous Gas | Lung Cancer

Radon is another naturally occurring element that is found in the gaseous form. It is tasteless and odorless which makes it very hard to determine the presence of Radon in a home or business without professional testing.

It can be found in all areas, but lower areas of the home are at higher risk because often Radon gas enters through the soil in the earth.

Why Radon Testing?

Radon can be present in any home and does pose risks to your health. Radon is one of the leading causes of lung cancer making it very important to get testing for Radon in your own home or any home or business that you plan to purchase as well. Radon breaks down into radioactive particles as it decomposes in the environment. This means that these particles can be breathed into your lungs where they may cause issues, such as cancer.

What is Radon Testing?

Radon testing is appropriate for any home or business.

This is because age, drafts, and other factors don’t really determine the possible levels of Radon in your indoor air.

In fact, surprisingly Radon gas often enters a home or business through the soil, meaning your crawl space could be the likely culprit. Although, homes getting their water from a groundwater source such as a well may be at risk as well, but the risks are less than with the soil underneath your property.

How is Radon Testing Performed?

A small testing monitor will be placed in your home to check the levels of Radon for at least 48 hours if you are testing for Radon in the short term.

This monitoring should occur in all rooms below the third floor according to the EPA. Continuous monitoring can also be achieved through a stationary monitor placed in your home in the same locations to keep an eye on Radon. This may be particularly helpful if you’ve had radon issues before.

Radon Testing Results

Once Air Quality Consultants of Richmond has determined the levels of Radon within your home or business we will personally report our findings to you.

We will also discuss your options. Homes with Radon can be made safe again and the levels of Radon can be lowered with a Radon home mitigation system, most commonly constructed of a vent and fan. This helps to vent Radon outside of your home and back into nature where it can do much less damage.

After testing is completed, you will receive a detailed report that contains the findings.

Depending on the results of the allergen testing, we will consult with you on ways to effectively clean up your indoor air and take care of those annoying allergy symptoms.
